Kakwa Oil Field Development
Client: Seven Generation Energy |
Location: M. D. Greenfield, Alberta |
Type: Geotechnical |
Project Budget: Est. > $1.5B to Date |
ParklandGEO has been provided annual geotechnical services to Seven Generations Energy for their Kakwa field development since 2016. To date, this project has involved mobilization, site clearing, location and drilling of over 1180 boreholes at over 250 sites about 100 km south of Grande Prairie. The facilities investigated have included resource roads, three major gas plant sites, well pads, oil batteries, tank farms, truck loading facilities, 120 pipeline crossings, and 20 freshwater reservoirs. Investigation methods have included auger drilling, seismic cone penetration testing (SCPT), vane shear testing (muskeg), bedrock coring and geophysical testing using truck mounted, track mounted, and helicopter assisted mobilization. Geotechnical engineering has been performed for conventional shallow and deep foundations; lateral pile loads; dynamic loads; flare stacks and towers; tanks and tank settlement; road and pad site development including sites on muskeg; HDD crossing design parameters, pond design and dewatering; slope cut/ fill design; pile driing efficiency analysis, and soil chemistry/ corrosion testing. This work was performed by engineers and techs based in Grande Prairie, Sherwood Park and Red Deer working under the supervision of our principal engineering in Red Deer and the Grande Prairie office manager.
