ParklandGEO has an immediate vacancy for a senior level Geotechnical Engineer. The position is open to one of either our Sherwood Park or Calgary office, but location maybe negotiable based on qualifications and personal situation.  The ideal candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in civil or geological engineering and 10 years of geotechnical engineering experience in Canada specializing in slope and geo-hazard assessments and remedial design. If you meet the level of experience and qualifications outlined in this posting you are welcome to apply to be part of our dynamic group of engineers.  Consideration would be given to a suitable candidate who meets the criteria provided but wishes to work from one of our other offices with the understanding that site visits to projects in the northern Alberta and British Columbia would be required.


ParklandGEO is in business to provide the highest quality of engineering services to clients in our service areas: routine and advanced geotechnical investigations; routine and advanced construction QA/QC including PDA and pile load testing; soil and aggregate testing, Materials Engineering: materials testing (concrete,asphalt and soil); construction monitoring, Environmental Site Assessments;environmental consulting, remediation and project management; soil and groundwater remediation.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from a Canadian recognized university program in civil or geological engineering.  Candidates with relevant advanced degrees are welcome.
  • Current APEGA membership as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng. designation).
  • At minimum of 10 years (15 years preferred) of geotechnical consulting experience in Canada; local experience is preferred.
  • A strong background in geohazard assessment, landslide,slope assessment, earth structures and foundation engineering.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of Finite Element and SlopeW Software.
  • Experienced in the interpretation and use of LiDAR data in Top of Bank and geohazard assessments.
  • Knowledge of current professional practices and technological advancements in geotechnical design engineering.
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate an understanding of soils mechanics related to slope assessments and pipelines;and familiarity with materials engineering and geo-environmental assessment.
  • A solid grasp of the English written and spoken language and can demonstrate excellent comprehension.
  • Flexibility to travel and work away from home to meet the needs of our clients.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Engineering Standards and Codes applicable for working in Alberta and other parts of Canada.
  • Effective people skills with a proven ability to manage clients and technical staff.
  • Current construction safety tickets including CSTS, H2S, First Aid, WHMIS 2015 is considered an asset.
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s license,insurable, and able to provide a 10-year driving abstract.
Responsibilities
  • Project manage medium to large geotechnical projects and coordinate smaller projects and tasks for other project managers.
  • Technical review and over sight of activities including field exploration, laboratory analysis, reporting,field monitoring and testing.
  • Detailed geotechnical analysis and design tasks.
  • Prepare and review proposals, field reports and technical documents.
  • Business development with new and existing clients in the Alberta and northern British Columbia.
  • Interaction with management, co-workers,contractors and subcontractors.
  • Be a responsible role model and mentor for junior.
  • Practice industry principles, procedures and practices of geotechnical consulting.
  • Have a working knowledge of the instruments and apparatus used in the course of your duties and perform routine maintenance on test equipment.
  • Complete assignments in a timely manner meeting business deadlines.
  • Be an analytical thinker, anticipate,troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise.
  • Adhere to all company health and safety policies and Provincial legislation.
  • Work in a professional business manner including language, deportment, and dress.
  • Be a company ambassador in dealings with clients, vendors and third-party contractors.
