In the fall of 2012, ParklandGEO was commissioned as a subconsultant to Voyageur Engineering on behalf of the M. D. Of Big Lakes to investigate a slumping and failing area along Township Road 770 near the Hamlet of Grouard Mission, Alberta. The local gravel road had experienced significant slumping and slide failure in the fill slope near a local seasonal drainage area. The failure had progressively failed into the road surface, affecting the safety of the public users. The M.D. of Big Lakes had routinely repaired the surface grades, although the failure continued and was expanding in magnitude.
ParklandGEO was asked to perform a geotechnical investigation in order to assess the failure causes and mechanisms, as well as design a remediation plan that would provide long term stability of the area. ParklandGEO completed a field program which involved drilling geotechnical boreholes and performing a site survey, after which we modeled the slope stability and remedial measures. We then provided the M.D. of Big Lakes with a remedial plan to ensure the long term stability of the road surface.
The ParklandGEO personnel responsible for this project include Mike McCormick, P. Eng. as senior engineer and Ramon Facundo, P. Eng. as project manager.
The client contact was Mr. Gilles Lussier, P. Eng. of Voyageur Engineering, (780) 536-6121.
