In the fall of 2008, ParklandGEO was commissioned to be the geotechnical consultant for the proposed Pleasant Valley Lodge development in Athabasca, Alberta. The scope of work for this project included drilling 11 boreholes to assess the subsurface conditions at the site, as well as performing select soil testing at ParklandGEO’s Sherwood Park Laboratory. The information was used to give recommendations for foundation design, asphalt parking areas and construction practices.
The results of the geotechnical investigation revealed a significant variability in the subsurface conditions including areas of weak clays that transitioned into areas of dense sand. The water table was also high at the site, which may present problems during construction. Due to the nature of the soils at the site, recommendations for shallow foundations and construction limitations were given in the geotechnical report.
The ParklandGEO personnel responsible for this project include Mike McCormick as senior engineer, Jamie Paul as project manager, and Candice Karas as the field supervisor
