We provide a wide range of services in Geotechnical Engineering: routine and advanced construction QA/AC including PDA and pile load testing, soil and aggregate testing;Materials Engineering: materials testing (concrete, asphalt, soil), and construction monitoring; Environmental Site Assessments: environmental consulting, remediation and project management; soil and groundwater remediation.


Continued demand for our services and upcoming projects have resulted in an immediate opening for a Materials Testing Field Technologist in Lethbridge with a strong preference for local candidates.

 

Job Description
While working as part of a team based out of the Lethbridge office your responsibilities will be:

  • Conduct a variety of materials testing in the field and laboratory.
  • Ensure all lab and field tests are completed accurately in accordance with a specified set of standards and procedures.
  • On-call evenings, weekends and holidays answering the company cell phone, taking calls from clients, field staff and management regarding current and future projects.
  • Responsible for scheduling materials testing of concrete, cement materials and aggregates.
  • Examine test samples, read blueprints, schematics, diagrams, measuring instruments, and follow operational instructions.
  • Ensure geotechnical investigations are completed when requested by the engineers.
  • Complete assignments in a timely manner meeting business deadlines.

  • Evaluate and review test and construction data and report findings to engineers and laboratory team.
  • Train and supervise field technicians in concrete and densities testing.
  • Build,adapt, set-up and test equipment to new situations, based on data sheets and instructions from engineers.
  • Adhere to all health and safety requirements including reporting procedures on a daily basis.
  • Play a contributing role and work closely with Medicine Hat and Calgary offices.
  • Maintain compliance with Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) standards for concrete, asphalt and sieves.
  • Ensure the office adheres to strict protocols regarding radiation safety and related procedures under the direction of the lead Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Perform routine maintenance of designated test equipment.
  • Anticipate,troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise.
  • Be a company ambassador in dealings with clients, vendors and third party contractors.
  • Business development for new and existing clients in the Lethbridge area.
Education and Experience
Consideration will be given to the following applicants with:
 
  • The successful applicant will live in the Lethbridge area and have at least 5 years experience working in the construction industry in the southern Alberta region.
  • Ideally the field technologist will have a CTech, PTech, or is an experienced CET, or EIT.
  • 5+ years’ experience in the Lethbridge construction industry with a focus on materials engineering.
  • Current in construction related safety tickets: CSTS 2020, WHMIS 2015, H2S Alive, First Aid / CPR, Radiation TDG,Ground Disturbance.
  • Very familiar with the city of Lethbridge and the surrounding regions.
  • Demonstrated skills in client business development.
  • Current membership in ASET.

  • Open communicator with the ability to coordinate and delegate.
  • Responsible role model who leads by example when mentoring junior employees.
  • Give clear written and oral directions,work as a team lead meeting organizational expectations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of industry principles,procedures and practices for material testing, geotechnical and environmental consulting and safety legislation.
  • Working knowledge of the instruments and apparatus used in material testing.
  • Work in a professional business manner including language, deportment, and dress.
  • Versatile and multifaceted with a willingness to grow and accept new challenges.
  • Keep up to date on safety training and certifications .
  • A solid grasp of the English language,clearly understood and excellent comprehension.
