ParklandGEO developed a remediation plan involving an air sparging and vapour extraction system, coupled with enhanced bio-remediation in order to remediate significant hydrocarbon contamination from two different historical sources. The contamination was present below two properties separated by a major Alberta Highway, including below an active commercial pump island in Edson, Alberta.
Following an extensive Phase 2 investigation, ParklandGEO prepared a Remedial Action Plan including one set of deep sparge lines and one set of shallow extraction lines, to be directionally drilled below both properties, the highway and through the active pump island. After tender preparation and contractor selection, ParklandGEO monitored a very successful installation, and commissioned the system in the spring of 2009. The system is designed to be run during the frost free months, coupled with enhanced bo-remediation during the winter months.
To date the contamination has been significantly reduced, allowing one of the properties to be negotiated for sale.
