Bear Creek Corridor Slope Stability Study

Client: The City of Grande Prairie
Location: Grand Prairie, Alberta
Type: Geotechnical Planning

Project Budget $350,000.00

Consulting: $350,000.00

In 2009, ParklandGEO was commissioned by The City of Grande Prairie to undertake a large scale slope stability study in Grande Prairie, Alberta.  This slope stability study focused on the Bear Creek Corridor within the City of Grande Prairie.  ParklandGEO conducted slope stability assessments at over 200 locations along the corridor, and reviewed previous investigation reports that were used to develop a set of working guidelines and documents that will enable the City of Grande Prairie to assess the risk to potential future development in the area.  A set of development guidelines for geotechnical investigations near slopes were also prepared.

As part of the study, ParklandGEO conducted review of past and current aerial photos, as well as LiDAR survey of the area.  The project also included various field drilling programs at existing slope failure locations, with advanced laboratory testing of soil samples.  The information gathered through the survey, the review of past geotechnical reports, and other information was entered into the City database for easy retrieval of pertinent information based on site location.

ParklandGEO staff involved in this project are Mike McCormick and Neal Maloney as project managers, with help from a variety of field and office staff
